We are open year round for all your outdoor activities. The Burning Heart Campground is available with Electric, Water & Sewer Sites. We have some Long Term Sites also available in the Burning Heart Campground. The Kansa Campground offers sites with Electric, Water & Sewer and sites with only Electric service. The Kansa Shower Building will remain open on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays until further notice. Pomona State Park offers a Shelter House (Southwind Shelter) for family gatherings or office business meetings. To book a reservation at the Southwind Shelter, please call the office at 785-828-4933.

NEW PRICE CHANGES FOR THE 2012 CAMPING SEASON:

The price of the ANNUAL CAMPING PERMIT has been lowered. Early eason pricing - BEFORE APRIL 1ST, the price of the Annual Camping Permit will be $152.50. AFTER APRIL 1ST the regular price will be $202.50

Another change is VEHICLE PERMITS. There will no longer be a discount given for ANY additional vehicle permits purchased.

ORMS IS UP AND WORKING WELL.

On April17, 2012 that state launched a new "on-line" reservation system in all Kansas State Parks. The system is working well and many of you have already booked your reservations on-line. If you have not had the opportunity to check this out go to ksoutdoors.com and check your favorite camping sites for availability and book your reservation today!

We have two cabins at Pomona State Park. Both cabins sleep six people and have large decks overlooking the lake. The patio area has a picnic table, grill and fire pit. This is the perfect place for a weekend getaway or family vacation.

Office Hours:

Office hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Saturdays and Sundays - Closed. Check ahead before driving far – office could be closed unexpectedly for training, etc. When the office is closed, please use our self-pay station located at the front entrance of the park.

Spend some time at the state park office viewing the bird feeders through the big windows. Bird visitors include red-bellied woodpeckers, white-breasted nuthatches, black capped chickadees, purple finches and Carolina wrens along with numerous hummingbirds. You can also catch a glance at the squirrels trying to enjoy the bird food.

Activities:

Kansas State Parks join "What's Your Mile?" Fitness Campaign - This program helps visitors to obtain information from the Healthy Kansas website. The Healthy Kansas website tailors a walking/hiking program to improve personal fitness. At Pomona State Park, the "Hedge-Wood Trail" (located near the front entrance of the park) has been designated as a healthy trail. Watch for the signs that read, "This trail leads to better health." Included on the signs is information about how to increase health and fitness, including hiking's role.

Pomona State Park has a 9-Hole Disc Golf course for your enjoyment. Discs can be checked out at the office during regular business hours.

There are several volleyball courts, basketball courts and playgrounds for visitors to enjoy.The swimming beach is located on the west side of the park, across from Southwind Shelter House.

Day Use Picnic Areas

There are day-use picnic areas throughout the park. You can choose many different areas to enjoy the day in the park with your family and friends.

Camping:

Pomona State Park offers more than 200 primitive campsites and 142 utility sites. Reservations can be made for 15 of the 142 utility sites available. All other campsites are first-come, first-served. To make reservations, please call the office at 785-828-4933. Reservations can be made at the Kansa Campground - sites 227, 279, 280 (electric, water & sewer) and sites 276, 278, and 281 (electric & water). Big Bear Campground - sites 322, 323, 324, 325, and 326 (electric & water). Burning Heart Campground - sites 122, 124, 126 and 128 (electric, water & sewer).

Things to Remember:

The park facilities and natural resources are here for your enjoyment, so please be considerate of other people and the park’s resources.

Common Camping Rules to be aware of are quiet hours are from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. Please respect your fellow campers. Fires are allowed only in fire rings and grills. Any alcohol that is greater than 3.2% alcohol by volume is prohibited in all state parks. Please park your vehicles only in designated locations. Your pet is welcome in the park, but must be on a leash at all times. Grey water disposal at dump stations only. Please put your trash in dumpsters when you leave.

Trails:

Buck Brush Trail Bridge

We have three trails located throughout the park. Rising Sun Trail is located on the east side of the park in the Ah Ke Ta picnic area. It is the park’s shortest trail. Buckbrush Trail is located next to the Burning Heart Campground. Hedge-Wood Trail is located at the park entrance. The Hedge-Wood Trail has been designated as a “HealthyKansasTrail” to promote outdoor activity and allow visitors to gauge their fitness level. This is the park’s longest trail and is ADA accessible. Total length of trails is over three miles of hiking.

Boat Ramps:

Pomona State Park offers four boat ramps. All have vault toilets close by. Courtesy docks are available but they are removed during the winter months.

Marina & Fishing:

Lighthouse Bay Marina is located near the Kansa Campground. They are a full service marina and offer you beverages, snacks, ice and fishing supplies. If you like to fish, Pomona Lake is known to be a great wiper and catfish lake. Fishermen have had great successes in recent years at Pomona Lake. State record flathead catfish and wiper were taken from Pomona waters in recent years. The marina is always a good place to begin your fishing trip.

Shelter House:

Southwind Shelter House is open year-round. If you are planning a business meeting or family gathering the Southwind Shelter House can be reserved please call the office for details. Southwind Shelter House is a group facility equipped with restrooms, a full kitchen, and a large multi-purpose room with tables and chairs to accommodate up to 128 people. It has a large covered back-porch area with picnic tables and outdoor grills for barbecues. The shelter can be reserved for $60/day. Please call the park office at 785-828-4933 to book your reservation today.

Wildlife Viewing:

Pomona State Park is a great place to visit if you are a birdwatcher. There are lots of songbirds with about 40 bluebird boxes in the park.

Some common animals you might see include white tailed deer, bobcats, coyotes, turkeys, raccoons, beavers, squirrels, foxes and rabbits. Bald eagles visit the lake in the winter and are often seen perching in shoreline trees or soaring above the lake.

Throughout migrations you can expect to see snow and Canada geese, buffleheads, goldeneyes, mergansers, mallards, teal, wigeons, pintails, and pelicans.

Friends of Pomona State Park

The Friends of Pomona State Park is an active group of individuals that provide activities and events throughout the summer, with any donations and proceeds going to playground equipment additions in the park. Some of the events held in 2011 were: They held their 1st Annual Fish Fry and held a 5k Run in the park. Biscuit & Gravy Feed, Sponsor of Litter Control on Highway 368, Kids Fishing Derby, Fireworks on 4th of July, live bands along with a horseshoe tournament, to name a few. Contact the park office if you wish to become a member or contribute a donation towards playground equipment.

The Friends of Pomona State Park held an Annual Kid's Fishing Derby on June 4, 2011. There were aproximately 70 kids in attendance. Several fish were caught and prizes were awarded.
