NEW in 2011
Sun Shades have been added at the playground area! Come check them out and watch the kids play.
A 14 target walk-thru Archery range has been added to the existing Bike Trail which is just one phase of expanding this area into a multi-purpose trail.
A 250 gallon Turtle Habitat in the Nature Room greatly expanded the Reptile Display & the snake tanks have been given a facelift too!
A much larger Bee Observatory is installed. The new hive has 12 frames (4 deep and 3 high) which will house approximately 15,000 bees. The fly-thru will be 4" tall and 3" deep and has a plexiglass front allowing you to watch the bees as they enter the building and make their way to the hive.
Construction of an Arboretum began in the fall of 2010 featuring a pond and a variety of native shrubs & wildflowers added to the landscape. There is a "Dry Creek" area leading down the ravine to the actual Pond with places to sit and watch the birds, bees & butterflies. This area will be ADA accessible. New implements from old farmsteads will be added to the existing collection and plans to create an old "Homestead" will allow us to interpret the history of homesteading in park area.
A new Information and Self-Pay Kiosk has been built on the site of the old office. This 1,000 sq. ft. structure features an arched covered roof with five informational displays and a lighted self-pay station for after hour arrivals.
With the completion of WestPoint campground done, a 1-1/2 mile Scooter Trail completes the project. This trail runs between WestPoint and Doud campgrounds with a parking area in WestPoint. It runs through open area as well as along a forested portion of the old Fairlawn township road and crosses a pretty nifty bridge that staff worked hard to build last winter. There will be RULES that apply to this area. All that is left is signs! come check it out!
Guest Books have been added to the Cabins and Yurts that tell about the names used in Eisenhower State Park and how they relate to the life of our 34th president. Local history, other points-of-interest and information are included as well as journal pages so you can comment on your stay.
