Prairie Mole Cricket (Gryllotalpa major)
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
The Prairie Mole Cricket requires undisturbed or lightly disturbed tallgrass prairie. Forelimbs are adapted for digging. It is reddish-brown to tan, and one of the largest insects in North America. They can utilize native hay meadows. The general range of this cricket is east of the Flint Hills and south of the Kansas River.
