Furbearers Seasons
HUNTING & TRAPPING
- NOTE: All furbearer hunting, trapping, and running seasons begin at 12 noon on opening day and close at midnight of closing day.
- Species: badger, bobcat, mink, muskrat, opossum, raccoon, swift fox, red fox, gray fox, striped skunk, weasel.
- Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 16, 2011 - Feb. 15, 2012 Limit: No limit.
BEAVER TRAPPING
- Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 16, 2011 - March 31, 2012
- Limit: No limit.
- NO OPEN TRAPPING OR HUNTING SEASON ON ANY OTHER FURBEARERS
RUNNING
- Species: bobcat, opossum, raccoon, red fox, and gray fox.
- Season Dates (statewide): March 1 - Nov. 1
- Legal hours for running furbearers is 24 hours daily. Furbearers cannot be killed or taken during the running season. A furharvester license is required to run furbearers. It is illegal to possess any firearm or other hunting or trapping equipment while pursuing these animals during the running season.
OTTER TRAPPING
The 100 otter quota has been reached as of 2/2/12. By regulation, otters taken within 3 days of the quota may be kept by the furharvester. At midnight on 2/5/12, the season will officially close. After that, incidentally taken otters should be reported to the Department prior to removal from the trap site. They may be reported to the toll free hotline at (855) 778-6887 or to the local DepartmentNatural Resource Officer or biologist.

Limit: Two otters per trapper. Each individual who has trapped an otter shall contact KDWPT within 24 hours of take at (855) 778-6887 (RPT-OTTR). The pelt and skinned carcass shall be presented to KDWPT for tagging within four days of harvest. The skinned carcass, including skull, shall be surrendered to KDWPT at that time. It is the trapper’s responsibility to stay aware of the season status. Updates on progress toward the 100-otter quota can be obtained by calling (855) 778-6887. Otters incidentally
taken after the season closes should also be reported to this number.
