CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - Last Updated: 3/22/2013
Waterfowl numbers |
Total duck numbers have increased as spring migration continues. In the basin we are seeing several hundred ducks, mostly pintails and mallards, using the small ephemeral wetlands that have shallow water from the melting snow. There are about 1,000 to 2,000 geese, mostly with equal numbers of dark geese and light geese.. With the shallow water in Pool 1 they have been spending some time on the Wildlife Area. |
Water level |
All pools are dry. We received about 1.15 inches of moisture, in the form of snow, over the past week or so. |
Hunting conditions |
Roads are in good shape. We have no significant water due to the lingering drought and no flows in Arkansas River or Wet Walnut Creek. |
Expected hunting success |
Light goose conservation order is on through April 30. Expected success is very poor. |
Comments |
All pools are dry, except for some small, shallow puddles. |
