Waterfowl numbers |
Total duck numbers are down from last week to about 4,000. Most are mallard and pintail. Goose numbers are also down and are estimated to be between a few thousand to near 15,000 depending upon the day and time of day. Most are dark geese. Mallard Migration=2 |

Water level |
Pool 1A- 12"; Pools 1B and 1C- 16"; Pools 2, 3A, 4A and 5 are dry, Pool 3B is estimated at 9 inches and Pool 4B is about 12 inches. |

Hunting conditions |
Roads are muddy due to the recent rains and snow. Area is about 50% frozen. You may encounter some areas of difficulty boating in Pools 3B and 4B due to shallow water. |

Expected hunting success |
For the last week of December, the few goose hunters averaged 0.3 goose per hunter. |

Comments |
Most goose activity is focused in refuge Pools 1A, 1B and 1C and The Nature Conservancy ground north od the Wildlife Area. Ducks are using all pools. Duck season is closed. |

The pool along Hwy. 42 is approximately 50% full. The main lake is full with a lot of vegetation. |

Regular duck season is Oct. 29, 2011 - Jan. 1, 2012 and Jan. 21 - 29, 2012. |

Daily Permit Required - free in each parking lot. Instructions are posted. Only non-toxic shot is allowed on Isabel Wetland Wildlife Area for all species. |

There is water in pools 1, 2, 3B, 6, 7, and the north end of 8. There is also water north of pool 6. |

Duck seasons have closed. This site will be updated if geese are present during open seasons. |

Permit required (Free) - available in all parking lots. Remember that only non-toxic shot is allowed for all shotgun hunting at Texas Lake Wildlife Area. |
