What is the Department doing to help solve the problem?
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks ANS program is designed to protect residents of Kansas and its aquatic resources from the multitude of potential losses associated with ANS plants and animals. The program focuses on preventing the accidental introduction of new ANS, limiting the spread of existing ANS, and controlling or eradicating ANS where environmentally and economically feasible. The intentional introduction of non-indigenous species for aquaculture, commercial, or recreational purposes is addressed to insure that these beneficial introductions do not result in accidental ANS introductions, and to improve information sharing among those agencies responsible for regulation of intentional introductions.
